NEWSLETTER – SEPTEMBER 2024

GOODBYE SUMMER, HELLO EVENT SEASON!

People usually say autumn begins when the leaves start to fall. It also feels like autumn begins when event activity across the financial services sector ramps up, and it really is ramping up!

I’ve already spoken at a few events and every day seems to bring a new speaking invitation which is a great reflection of the Alliance’s impact and people’s appetite to hear more.

There are a couple of events I’d like to draw your attention to:.

  • Preparing for 2025: How technology can support your Consumer Duty obligations -
    3 October, webinar
Our latest Technology Forum, chaired by Ian Mckenna, focuses on how firms are using technology to support activities such as: Client onboarding, Annual Reviews, creating financial plans and embedding Consumer Duty in their technology roadmap.
    Register here.
  • Evolution of Financial Planning - 11 October, Birmingham
This event has proved so popular that we’ve had to increase the capacity so more people can attend. If your firm has up to around 20 people, this event is for you!
A varied and interactive agenda features sessions from the FCA and a variety of sector leaders and practitioners, an FCA demo of the Retirement Income Advice Assessment Tool, an FCA feedback session, a Q&A panel and networking opportunities.
    Register here.

Of course, it’s not all about events and the Consumer Duty Alliance family continues to expand. In recent newsletters I’ve discussed the New Talent Alliance. I’m pleased to announce that the Retirement Income Taskforce is now ready to publicise their work and you can read more here.

And next month, you’ll be able to learn more about the Cross Border Alliance. This new forum aims to identify and create good practices for handling UK citizens or residents who have cross-border assets and advice/planning needs.

Feedback from Alliance members drives our activity; if you think we should be focussing on other areas, please let us know by completing this enquiry form.

FCA wants your input

And don't forget the FCA's Call for Input. This is your chance to provide views on whether, where and how they can refine their retail conduct rules, while ensuring they continue to support and protect consumers. They particularly want to address potential areas of complexity, duplication, confusion, or over-prescription, which create regulatory costs with limited or no consumer benefit.

This is a great opportunity for all retail financial services firms to share their thoughts and experiences. The deadline is 31 October and I encourage all members to feed in to this review, either via the online response form, post or email.

To be recognised as a true profession - united we evolve, divided we fail!

Very best wishes,

Keith Richards, CEO, Consumer Duty Alliance and Chairman, Financial Vulnerability Taskforce

Due to unprecedented demand, we’ve increased the event’s capacity and released more tickets - have you booked yours?

Join hundreds of practitioners who've already got tickets for the Alliance's first in-person event to share good practice. Registration opens at 08:30, and the varied, interactive agenda starts at 09:45.

You'll get the chance to hear from and interact with the FCA as they:

  • Deliver a keynote session on their 2-year strategy for the Advisers and Intermediaries sector.
  • Demonstrate the Retirement Income Advice Assessment Tool (RIATT).
  • Host feedback sessions and an all-day clinic.

Plus sessions from sector leaders and practitioners, a Q&A panel and networking opportunities - lots of potential to get the information and ideas you need for your business!
