FCA MARKS DUTY'S 2ND ANIVERSARY PLUS MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOU TO ENGAGE WITH THEM

NEWSLETTER – AUGUST 2025

We’re now into the third year of Consumer Duty and, to mark that milestone, the FCA issued an update including articles from five FCA directors explaining the Duty’s impact across various markets:

To help firms embed the Duty, the FCA also published Digital design in customers' online journeys: good practice and areas for improvement. Although the findings of this review relate to consumer credit providers, it includes good and poor practices that could be of broader interest to firms with a digital presence.

This update and its varied contents provide more evidence of a different and more engaging approach by the FCA which we've witnessed first hand and seems set to continue from our direct and regular interactions with them.

YOU CAN HEAR FROM AND ENGAGE WITH THE FCA FIRST HAND

Our Four Nations Tour of regional conferences is a perfect opportunity for small firms to hear from and and engage directly with the FCA.

The first events in Edinburgh and Belfast attracted over 430 attendees with lots of positive feedback on the fresh approach, range of speakers and direct interaction with the FCA.

  • 97% of delegates said they would take action or make changes following the FCA sessions.
  • 93% said they would recommend the event to others.

Our next events are in England and Wales and you can book spaces using the links below:

SECTOR ENGAGEMENT AND ALLIANCE DEVELOPMENTS

Although August is traditionally a quiet/er time, I've been busy judging entries for the Money Marketing and Professional Adviser Awards as well as various speaking engagements.

Also, the Alliance and our Chair of the Cross Border Alliance, Jane Hodges, had a very productive meeting with the FCA during the month in relation to cross-border advice and gaining greater clarity in a number of key areas to better support UK consumers abroad. The board of the Retirement Income Taskforce (RIT) also met during the month and we're pleased to announce the appointment of Fiona Tait,  Advice and Compliance Director at Intelligent Pensions, to the RIT Board - welcome Fiona!

I will soon be chairing the judging committees for various categories of the Schroder UK Platform Awards which sees many of the best firms and individuals across the sector compete for recognition from one of the sector's most prestigious set of awards.

Looking further ahead, on 20 October 2025, I will be in London speaking at City & Financial Global’s FCA Investigations and Enforcement SummitThis highly respected forum provides a unique opportunity for investigations and litigation specialists to gain critical insights into the FCA’s evolving enforcement strategy and expectations of regulated firms, and includes a keynote address from Therese Chambers, Co-Executive Director, Enforcement & Market Oversight, Financial Conduct Authority. To be recognised as a true profession - raising standards together we evolve!

Very best wishes,
