TURNING REGULATION INTO REAL-WORLD DELIVERY

NEWSLETTER – MAY 2026

At the FCA’s May financial crime conference, the message was clear: financial crime is becoming more organised, more sophisticated, and harder to detect - with victims now losing an average of £25,000.

For many firms, the challenge isn’t awareness - it’s translating that into action.

That means taking a closer look at where vulnerabilities sit, how technology is being used in reality (not just on paper), and whether detection and response processes would genuinely stand up under pressure. Read the FCA’s full speech: Working together against financial crime.

ALLIANCE WEBINARS

  • Social media in a regulated world
May's Consumer Duty Practitioner Forum tackled a key challenge for firms - how to use social media confidently and compliantly. The expert panel explored what “good” looks like in a regulated context, and how firms can balance authenticity with regulatory expectations in practice.

  • Are your clients understanding key information – or just receiving it?
Our next webinar takes place on 4 June and shares five proven techniques for creating plain-language client communications. This workshop-style session will be hosted by Frances Gordon, a content specialist with over 25 years’ experience helping financial firms communicate clearly.

CDA ON THE ROAD

Our latest regional conference took us to Exeter, with a packed agenda focused on the practical realities of delivering good consumer outcomes. Sessions explored data-led supervision, fair value in practice, cross-border implications for UK advisers and an update on the 2025 adviser survey from the FCA’s Sara Woodroffe.

A consistent theme throughout the day was the shift from interpretation to implementation - what good looks like when applied day-to-day. As one delegate reflected: “Helped enforce my confidence in my small firm’s delivery of good outcomes.”

We will shortly announce our national conference in Birmingham in October, which will feature a completely fresh agenda. Whether you’ve attended a CDA event before or are yet to join us, we hope to see you in Birmingham where you’ll hear from the FCA and industry leaders on the evolution of personal finance - and what it means in real-world practice.
